The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Korea Startup Forum (KSF) jointly held a press conference about COMEUP 2023 on October 30 at Dreamplus in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

COMEUP, an annual event, aims to spotlight South Korea’s flourishing startup ecosystem globally. Since its inception in 2019, COMEUP has grown into a prestigious international startup event, drawing over 50,000 attendees annually.

COMEUP 2023, hosted for the fifth time, will run from November 8 to 10 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, attracting startups, investors, and entrepreneurs from 29 countries.

This year’s COMEUP has gone international, reflecting the outcomes of the government’s strategic activities abroad. A substantial delegation from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, along with representatives from 28 countries, will be present. A ‘global zone’ will allow foreign companies to engage with the event.

Over 160 domestic and foreign venture capitalists (VCs) are expected, including global corporate venture capitalists (CVCs) participating in the Global CVC Conference, promoting investments in startups and their global expansion.

To enhance participation, COMEUP will coincide with the K-Global Cluster event at the S-factory in Seongsu-dong. This collaboration with renowned international clusters will address various themes, including cooperation in cosmetics and advanced bio, showcasing Korea’s strengths to the world.

Notably, over half of the participating startups (approximately 60%) are from overseas, making COMEUP a truly global event and fostering extensive international networking.

COMEUP 2023 is evolving into a platform supporting startup growth. The COMEUP Stars program will nurture early-stage startups and provide mentoring opportunities with top investors. The BizMatching program, previously event-based, will now be accessible year-round online, expanding investment and collaboration prospects.

Minister LEE Young emphasized the importance of startups in the digital age and expressed hope that COMEUP 2023 will facilitate interactions between Korean and global startups and help them enter international markets.
