PLUME.D Secures Pre-Series A Funding to Advance AI-Based Motion Recognition Tech
Reading Time: 2 minutesPLUME.D, a Korean startup specializing in ‘AI-based real-time motion and expression recognition solutions,’ has successfully raised pre-Series A funding from POSTECH Holdings and dcamp. This investment brings PLUME.D’s total funding to over KRW 900 million.
Established in June 2022 by students from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), PLUME.D has developed technology for rendering virtual avatars. This technology accurately mimics users’ actions in three-dimensional space in real time by estimating 3D information from 2D video footage captured by a camera. It applies AI deep learning-based motion tracking and ‘retargeting’ technologies. Leveraging this technology, since June 2023, PLUME.D has been offering ‘AvaKit,’ a software that enables real-time motion capture services with just a webcam, targeting the ‘Virtual YouTuber (VTuber)’ market.
AvaKit is acclaimed for reducing the financial burden on VTubers, who previously had to invest in expensive motion capture equipment costing millions of won, thereby lowering the barrier to entry for content creation.
Since February, PLUME.D has officially launched its service on Steam, the world’s largest Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) platform, and is forming partnerships with various domestic and international VTubers. With its technological prowess, PLUME.D provides the AvaKit solution to VTubers in over 100 countries and offers B2B services to a range of domestic and international government agencies and corporations, including the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Furthermore, PLUME.D is preparing to make a direct foray into the virtual entertainment market by leveraging the strengths of its AI deep tech technology to develop its own IP and management system.
Lee Kyung-min, CEO of PLUME.D, stated, “This funding round will allow us to enhance the PLUME.D solution and further strengthen our position in the market. We plan to make a more explosive entry into the market, not just with our technology solution, but by merging our proprietary IP and technical capabilities.”
