MOREH Forms Strategic Partnership with AMD and Raises $22 Million in Funding
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Korea-based artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure solutions company, MOREH, has entered into a strategic partnership with the American semiconductor company AMD and secured investment.
In this latest Series B funding round, which amounted to $22 million, leading AI and adaptive computing sector company AMD and KT participated as a strategic investor, along with financial investors Forest Partners and Smilegate Investment.
MOREH, a major AI semiconductor tech company, develops enterprise AI cloud solutions, including AI infrastructure software. MOREH’s solutions significantly reduce dependency on NVIDIA in developing and operating major AI services, such as massive language models like GPT-3.
The computational semiconductor sector of the AI infrastructure market is currently dominated by NVIDIA’s GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) used for AI computations. Most AI services and solutions are developed based on NVIDIA’s software programming platform called ‘CUDA.’ MOREH’s software provides a full-stack solution, including AI libraries and compilers, similar to what NVIDIA’s CUDA offers. Customers can use existing AI models with the MOREH software on GPUs and AI processors other than NVIDIA’s, without any code modifications.
Already, MOREH’s software is commercially available as “Hyper-Scale AI Computing (HAC)” in KT’s AI cloud service alongside AMD Instinct GPUs. The combination of AMD Instinct GPUs and MOREH’s software achieves performance comparable to NVIDIA’s GPU servers.
Jo Kang-won, the CEO of MOREH, expressed his happiness at the strategic partnership with AMD, saying, “We are delighted to establish a strategic partnership with AMD. Through close collaboration with AMD, which possesses GPUs with competitiveness equal to NVIDIA’s, MOREH will contribute to the more effective and cost-efficient development and use of next-generation AI in the industry.”
Brad McCredie, Vice President of AMD’s Data Center GPU and Accelerated Processing division, explained, “The software ecosystem that supports AMD AI hardware is continuously growing, providing data professionals and other AI users with the choice to build leading AI models and solutions. We are pleased that MOREH has joined the AMD ecosystem and are confident that they will lead the future with an easy-to-use, optimal AI software solution.”
MOREH recently successfully completed the training of a massive language model (LLM) with the largest Korean-based dataset, containing 221 billion parameters. They plan to further enhance this foundational model and release a Korean-specific language model as open source by the end of this year.
