Korean startup GemGem Therapeutics, which has developed the augmented reality (AR) game ‘GemGem400‘ for upper limb rehabilitation of children with disabilities, has secured an additional 200 million KRW in seed investment. This follows a previous 300 million KRW seed investment from Korea Investment Accelerator and Digital Healthcare Partners (DHP) late last year, marking the completion of their seed funding round.

With this funding, GemGem Therapeutics plans to enhance AI models, develop diverse rehabilitation exercise content, and increase service awareness to improve accessibility for disabled children and explore global expansion.

In May, GemGem Therapeutics officially launched ‘GemGem400’, an AR game designed to allow disabled children to enjoy rehabilitation exercises at home without requiring special equipment. The game utilizes the tablet’s front camera to recognize various hand gestures aimed at facilitating brain plasticity through upper limb rehabilitation exercises. A 7-day free trial is intended to enable more users to experience the game’s effectiveness and reduce barriers to rehabilitation accessibility.

Lee Soon-yeol, CEO of Korea Social Investment, expressed high hopes for GemGem Therapeutics to lead innovation in global rehabilitation for disabled children, citing their exceptional gaming experience and dedication.

Kim Jung-eun, CEO of GemGem Therapeutics, began the project leveraging his decade-long experience in game development, motivated by his own child with cerebral palsy. Through research at Catholic University, he demonstrated that their solution provides equivalent rehabilitation effects as high-cost glove-type products priced in the millions of KRW. Kim looks forward to aiding more disabled children, stating that formal launch and investment will enable them to offer effective rehabilitation solutions and pursue ongoing improvement and global expansion.
