MSS of Korea Hosts ‘2024 Venture Startup Talent Matching Festival’ in India for Global Venture Growth
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Ministry of SMEs and Startups in Korea (MSS), led by Minister Oh Young-ju, hosted the “2024 Venture Startup Talent Matching Festival” on the 26th and 27th in New Delhi, India. This event aimed to facilitate the recruitment of exceptional software talent for Korean venture companies.
Historically, the “Venture Startup Talent Matching Festival” catered mainly to domestic college students. However, starting this year, the initiative has expanded to hold concurrent events in foreign countries, targeting global talent acquisition based on the preferences of venture startups. A survey conducted by MSS in July 2023 revealed that companies prefer software talent from India (36.4%), followed by Vietnam (31%), and China (11.8%).
The inaugural “Overseas Local Talent Matching Festival” was conducted in India, selected for its proficient English-speaking environment, the abundance of outstanding software talent from the Indian Institutes of Technology, and proactive engagement and cooperation with Korea. This includes the establishment of Korean language departments at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Korean language schools operated by the Korean Cultural Center.
The event attracted participation from 117 Korean venture companies and around 1,000 Indian youths. Among the participants was Agarwal Pankaj, an Indian entrepreneur who founded TagHive in Seoul after graduating from the Indian Institutes of Technology and earning an MBA from Harvard. He encouraged Indian youths to seek employment opportunities in Korea.
The festival included informational sessions and Q&A about working in Korea, along with pre-scheduled one-on-one interviews between Korean companies and Indian youths, primarily conducted via online platforms. Recruitment was tailored to either “staying in Korea” or “local staying” options, depending on the company’s conditions.
Furthermore, during the event, the Korea Venture Business Association and the Pan-IT Alumni Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster continued employment cooperation for Indian Institutes of Technology graduates within Korean venture companies.
Minister Oh Young-ju remarked, “Global venture ecosystems like Silicon Valley in the USA and Station-F in France have been built by attracting and integrating top talents from both domestic and international sources. Starting with the recruitment of software personnel, we aim to devise various strategies to globalize the Korean venture ecosystem and accelerate the international expansion of venture companies.”
