MVNT Secures Seed Investment to Protect Dance IPs and Choreographer Rights
Reading Time: 2 minutesSouth Korea’s dance IP startup, MVNT, has secured seed investment from Mashup Ventures. MVNT was co-founded by CEO Jung Eui-jun, a modern dance major and founding member of the startup co-living space ‘nonce‘, and Choi Young-jun, a general producer and choreographer for K-POP artists like Seventeen and BTS. They established MVNT to tackle issues such as choreography plagiarism and unauthorized use in games, aiming to protect the rights and copyrights of choreographers, as well as the creative freedom and intellectual property of dancers.

MVNT operates ‘Emote Publisher‘, a solution distributing dance IPs including K-POP, ballet, traditional dance, and acrobatics, popular in global short-form content. They use proprietary 3D motion capture and deep learning technologies to convert dancers’ choreography into high-quality animation assets for gaming and virtual productions.
MVNT is building a dance IP infrastructure to ensure original choreographers receive royalties. The company’s goals through dance IP publishing include protecting choreographers’ moral rights, attribution rights, and rights to create derivative works. They have also secured a choreography brokerage license from the Korea Copyright Commission.
Park Eun-woo, a partner at Mashup Ventures, stated, “With the rising popularity of metaverse platforms and global dance challenges, interest in transforming dance IPs into assets is increasing worldwide. We believe MVNT, founded by K-POP experts, is poised to become the Universal Music Group of choreography copyright.”

Jung Eui-jun, CEO of MVNT, remarked, “Currently, the 3D sector faces a significant shortage of sophisticatedly labeled dance assets and data, leading to a supply shortfall relative to the demand for high-quality 3D animations. MVNT is focused on eliminating this bottleneck, connecting the digital world with dance, and ultimately providing greater rewards to choreographers.”
