D-Camp, a startup support organization in Korea, celebrated its 11th anniversary by holding its 108th D-Day event at PIXEL in Singapore, in collaboration with Infocomm and Media Development Authority (IMDA) and KB Financial Group from Singapore. This marked the first time since June 2013 that D-Camp held a D-Day event outside of Korea. The event showcased five teams that were selected from a 16-to-1 competition, introducing promising Korean startups interested in expanding to Southeast Asia to local startup support organizations and venture capitalists in Singapore.

The judging panel consisted of executives from IMDA, as well as venture capital firms such as Cento ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, OpenSpace, Tinmen Capital, and Insignia Venture Partners, while H.E. Choi Hoon, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Singapore, visited the event to show support for the finalists.

During his speech, Mr. Kim Young-duk, CEO of D-Camp, expressed his hope that this D-Day event would serve as a springboard for Korean startups to enter Southeast Asia and that more companies would be encouraged to expand abroad. He also thanked their partners in Singapore, including IMDA, for their support.

The D-Camp award was given to Wemeet, a mushroom-based meat substitute that creates the texture of roasted chicken, unlike its competitors that focus on creating beef or pork textures. They use soy-free mushrooms to achieve this, making it suitable for consumers with cardiovascular disease due to its lack of cholesterol and trans fat, 100% fiber, and 50% less saturated fat than chicken. Wemeet had also received the Korea Growth Finance Award at D-Day in November of the previous year.

KaiHealth was awarded the IMDA Award for developing an AI solution that selects good embryos to increase the success rate of fertility treatments. Previously, the selection of good embryos was based on the experience of doctors, but now the process has been objectivized with data to improve the pregnancy success rate. KaiHealth’s AI algorithm has been entrusted with this task, and it has the potential to increase the success rate of fertility treatments by up to 10% or more. Dr. Lee, an obstetrician and gynecologist who graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine, won the mini-DDay co-hosted by D-Camp and Seoul National University College of Medicine in December 2021.

HURAY POSITIVE is a digital healthcare company that specializes in chronic disease management solutions. It is an alliance of 13 startups, each with its strengths in different diseases, that provides personalized healthcare information to customers. HURAY POSITIVE has secured customers such as Hyundai Marine and the National Health Insurance Service through its launch of My Health Note, a health management service with Samsung Fire. The company aims to expand its business to Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East as it seeks to enter the global market.

Omnis Labs has developed the ‘Deepblock‘ machine learning AI platform to easily analyze image data collected from aviation and space. Even with images as large as 100TB, which are difficult for experts to analyze, Deepblock can quickly automate up to 15GB of satellite and aerial image data per second with AI. Mr. Moon sees this technology as an opportunity to expand its services, given the rapid growth of the geospatial analytics industry supported by the Singapore government.

Grade Health Chain‘s ‘Log’ service calculates health ratings and provides financial benefits based on medical examination and medical record data. Currently, six insurers, including ABL Life and Hana Insurance, offer products that discount or increase insurance premiums based on Grade Health Chain’s health rating. The company was selected as an innovative financial service by the Financial Services Commission in 2020 and has a patent for its health rating system. It has already accumulated 210,000 subscribers and plans to expand the scope of benefits to loan and deposit rates by utilizing health ratings as an alternative credit rating factor.

On the eve of D-Day, D-Camp, along with the Singapore Fintech Association (SFA), the Singapore Enterprise Services Agency (ESG), and Korea’s Office of Global Entrepreneurship and Immigration Services (OASIS), held a ‘Meet Korea’ event. This event shared information on how Singaporean startups can apply for a visa and establish a legal entity to expand their business in Korea. The event was attended by 37 Singaporean startups, who showed a strong interest in entering the Korean market.
